EyeVision and FocalSpec for the inspection of wire

With the support of the FocalSpec sensors the EyeVision software can also capture and evaluate challenging objects such as e.g. enameled copper wire. For an application case, the 0,5 mm thick copper wire, which was mounted into a spool, was captured with the FocalSpec sensor. The EyeVision software evaluated the captured point cloud and checked the presence of the wire.

FocalSpec for reflective surfaces

Also extreme reflective surfaces can be captured and a detailed point cloud can be generated. With its 3D commands the EyeVision software can evaluate those point clouds. It can trace the copper wire and check the wire, if it is correctly mounted to the connector pin.

For this task the FocalSpec was chosen, as the sensor has high resolution and a high accuracy. In addition the image capture of the FocalSpec is not disturbed by reflective materials as glass or metal and therefore is specially suited for reflective surfaces. And also for metal wire, which also reflects the light.

For all metal wires

Besides the copper wire also other wires such as bond wire from gold and silver can be captured with the FocalSpec and a point cloud can be generated. Those wires can be inspected in their complete length between lead frame and die.

Similar challenging applications, such as the transition between glass and metal surfaces can also be captured with the FocalSpec.

EyeVision command set for 3D evaluation

With the command set of the EyeVision software the captured point clouds can be evaluated and with the FocalSpec support the software has therefore gained a mastery of a challenging application field.

The EyeVision software has an extensive command set for 3D evaluation. Besides the 3D Blob for counting objects, the 3D Match is a command that can carry out pattern matching tasks in the point cloud. Both commands allow the creation of inspection programs with the drag-and-drop function without programming skills.
